Fifa 17: EA announce release date ahead of E3

EA is promising fans change with a whole new game engine

The E3 news cycle has already begun and one of the biggest announcements so far is the release date of Fifa 17 from Electronic Arts. The newest title in the football franchise is set for a global kick off on September 29th for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

A new Fifa title is, of course, inevitable but this time it is going to be built in a whole new engine called Frostbite, effectively benching the previously used Ignite engine after only a few releases.

The Frostbite technology has more commonly been used to develop shooter titles such as Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefield and it was first used in a sports title with last year’s PGA Tour. The Frostbite tech will only be used in the development of the current generation console and PC versions of the game, so it will be interesting to draw comparisons with the last generation versions.

Thus far, the publisher has only released a short reveal trailer with no details about gameplay or new features just yet. It has, however, opened pre-orders with Standard, Deluxe, and Super Deluxe versions of the game available, each with increasing amounts of special content.

If you’d rather not commit to purchasing with so little information to go on, EA has promised a bigger reveal for Fifa 17 in its E3 news conference on Sunday, June 12th.
