Fortnite season 10 official trailer

Epic Games has given the first proper teaser for the tenth season of Fortnite, revealing an image that appears to hint there may be an aspect of time travel in the battle royale game.

Fans tuning in to the Fortnite World Cup finals on Sunday were shown an image of the Dusty Depot area of Fortnite Island, which was originally destroyed ahead of season four by a meteorite.

The release date for season 10 is set for 1 August and many believe it promises to be one of the most ambitious chapters of the world's most popular video game.

Theories include a new feature that allows players to time travel back to a point in the game before the meteor hit.

This theory is supported by the caption for the teaser image, which states: "Think Back."

Season 10 of Fortnite has been building for several weeks, with the construction of a giant pink robot at the Pressure Plant.

This culminated in the robot battling and slaying a giant monster that emerged from the sea during the season's live event.

The end of season 9 was delayed by two weeks to make room for the Fortnite World Cup finals, which saw 16-year-old Kyle 'Bugha' Giersdorf take home the $3 million (£2.4m) grand prize.

More than 40 million players from around the world had competed for a chance to play at the finals, making it the "most participated-in tournament of all time", according to Epic Games.

Millions of Fortnite fans tuned in to watch the finals of the Duos and Solos events, while more than 23,000 people filled the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Beyond Bugha, the top four finishers at the tournament became instant millionaires, while every player received at least $50,000 just for qualifying.
