Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has finally announced the release date of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, along with details on the collector’s edition.

The release date for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3 versions of the game is set for September 1st later this year, while PC gamers will have to wait another two weeks, until September 15, to get their hands on Snake’s latest adventure.

In an interview with IGN, Kojima said that this will be the last game in the series for him. “I always say ‘this will be my last Metal Gear’, but the games in the series that I've personally designed and produced - Metal Gear on MSX, MG2, MGS1, 2, 3, 4, Peace Walker, and now MGSV - are what constitute a single 'Metal Gear Saga.' With MGSV, I'm finally closing the loop on that saga.”

“In that sense, this will be the final 'Metal Gear Solid. Even if the ‘Metal Gear’ franchise continues, this is the last ‘Metal Gear.’”

Phantom Pain will also feature a competitive multiplayer mode, Metal Gear Online, that will go live on launch day.

Twitter reaction has been positive, with many saying how excited they are for the game, while many have also mentioned how Kojima has said this is his last Metal Gear game a number of times.
