Sony is delaying its plan to release the PlayStation 4 in China because of various factors, it has said.
The console was set to be released on January 11, but the company has delayed the launch because of “various factors”, the company said in a statement.
The company said in a statement that a new sale date had not yet been determined, according to Reuters .
Both Sony and Microsoft have been trying to get their games consoles into the huge but difficult Chinese market. Doing so has involved tweaking the console to allow authorities to censor it.
Best PS4 games of 2014Show all 10 1 /10Best PS4 games of 2014 Best PS4 games of 2014 Destiny Although this 28th century post-apocalyptic sci-fi adventure was made by the creators of the Xbox favourite Halo and has a story that can, at best, be described as convoluted and lacklustre, Destiny is a deep, fluid, fast first person shooter that draws influence from multiple sources and wraps it in a package of gorgeous graphics and ear-pleasing audio.
Best PS4 games of 2014 The Last of Us Remastered The original 2013 incarnation of The Last of Us was a worthy winner of dozens of Game of the Year Awards so many gamers were hoping for signs of sequel. Instead, we got this: a visually enhanced version for the PS4 complete with a director commentary. Yet Naughty Dog's boundary-pushing action-adventure is a real treat, blending perfect level design with mature, brutal and honest story-telling.
Best PS4 games of 2014 Spelunky Although the independently-made action-adventure Spelunky debuted on the PC in 2009, it only made it to the PS4 in October. Combining the straight-forward gameplay and looks of a game from the 90s (think Rick Dangerous) with the polish of a modern-day blockbuster, it's a randomly generated multiplayer platformer that truly tests gamer ability.
Best PS4 games of 2014 LittleBigPlanet 3 Stephen Fry's narration leads gamers into the latest incarnation of a PlayStation fave that introduces three new characters – Oddsock, Toggle and Swoop – and pits them across a set of lovingly-crafted levels. The game's create mode has benefited from the introduction of pop-it puzzles which teach gamers how to manipulate the digital world without bogging them down with tools. As a result, it's a game the LBP community will adore.
Best PS4 games of 2014 Don't Starve Released just days into the New Year, Don't Starve was able to wash away the back-to-work January blues by offering a compelling survival sim set in a huge open world that could so easily have dripped from the pen of Tim Burton. It's a fascinatingly arty, atmospheric battle against starvation that makes you question pretty much everything you come across.
Best PS4 games of 2014 Infamous: Second Son Infamous was a hugely popular PlayStation-exclusive for the PS3 in 2009 and this third game in the series has had a similar impact on the PS4. The game asks players to pick a path of good or evil for the central character Delsin and it enthrals thanks to frantic, challenging battles and a greater array of powers than in previous incarnations. With DualShock 4 integration and an impressive visualisation of Seattle, it's both sexy and slick.
Best PS4 games of 2014 FIFA 15 As predictable as Christmas and just as excitedly anticipated, the latest FIFA is arguably the most faithful reproduction of the beautiful game committed to console. As always EA Sports has gone for realism, taking advantage of the extra power of the PS4 and while it can feel a little tick-boxy (living pitches that scar as players dig their boots in and goal-line technology), it's a winner.
Best PS4 games of 2014 DriveClub It may lack variation but DriveClub remains the best PS4 racer to date (which some may feel is a rather damning insight into the competition). The game keeps things simple by throwing out many driving staples such as car customisation and replays. But the cars boast tight-handling, the social elements excel and you're able to take to the wheel of gorgeous cars on realistic-looking tracks.
Best PS4 games of 2014 Metro Redux Whether or not you like these gaming revamps, there is no denying that the double tarting up of shooters Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light for the PS4 is a triumph. The former benefits from features introduced in the latter (the musical cues as an enemy emerges proving very effective) and both shine in 1080p. It's how remakes should be.
Best PS4 games of 2014 Towerfall Ascension Towerfall was one of the – only – reasons to snap up a Ouya, that disappointing Kickstarter crowd-funded Android-based console that has largely died a death. Towerfall Ascension is the PS4 version with an offline four-player, fast-flowing free-for-all that will rock any Christmas party. Time to buy some more controllers.
Sony announced months ago that it would launch the PlayStation in the country, and then gave further details on the release in December. That was when it said the January 11 launch date.
Sony said earlier this year that the console will be produced through two joint ventures with Chinese companies — one focused on hardware and the other on software.
Xbox has already arrived in the country, launching in China four months ago.
