PSN down: PlayStation Network breaks on the same day Destiny 2 is released

Sony has said it is 'aware' of the issue

PlayStation Network is down on perhaps the most important day of the year.

Online play is broken for many users, just as they were trying to get on to play Destiny 2. The problems started the same evening the game was released, meaning many people weren't able to play at all.

Sony tweeted to say that it was "aware" of the problem and that it was investigating. Its "Ask PlayStation" account hasn't tweeted since.

Many players replied to that post to complain that they wanted to know when it would be rsolved, and to ask for free subscriptions to the service in recompense. Sony has offered such deals before.

PSN rarely goes down, but has a habit of doing at inopportune times. Over Christmas 2015, for instance, the service went offline just as people were getting their new consoles – and stayed down for more than a week.

The problems appeared to be focused in Europe and Japan, according to the website Down Detector, though that might be a result of timezones. Reports of the problems are gradually falling, the same website showed.
