Nintendo has firmed up its plans to release a new Star Fox game for the Wii U in 2015, a year that will also see new Zelda and Yoshi games.

Shigeru Miyamoto has taken the game under his wing, which has yet to be given a title.

"This is a game that we've developed internally up until now, but because we do want to bring this to market very soon, we are looking at some potential partner companies that we can team up with," he told Gamespot, but reassured fans that he "will be directly in charge of the project," whoever Nintendo teams up with.

Star Fox 64 (Lylat Wars in Europe and Australia) became a cult classic on the N64 ("do a barrel roll!") but lost steam a little with its last main console titles, Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox Assault on the GameCube.

After a dalliance in RPGs, Star Fox will be back in the cockpit on the WiiU, with the GamePad set to make it a more immersive experience than before.

The pad will offer a cockpit view independent from your flying direction, while the main screen will show a more traditional third-person spacecraft view.

"The way that I design games, I start by experimenting with a lot of different assets and play styles," Miyamoto added of the game's development. "And then, once we have all that laid out and understood, then we go into full development and begin building the graphics around them."
