It seems the internet is finally getting round to fixing some basic flaws.

After the introduction of WhatsApp’s double-blue-tick (for messages that have actually been read) and Facebook’s expanded News Feed settings (for unfollowing friends), Instagram has finally given users the ability to edit captions in uploaded photos.

Yep, this means that any misspelt hashtags and thumb-slip emojis can now be altered without having to delete the photo and re-upload it entirely.

“This has been one of the top requests that we’ve heard from the community, and we’re excited to finally bring it to you today,” said Instagram in a blog post announcing the changes. “You’ll find a new “Edit” option in the menu beneath your image. Tap it to edit your caption.”

The editing features were announced alongside a renovated Explore tab that makes it “faster to find people you want to follow”. The new tab is now split into two sides, one for photos and one for people.
