Microsoft launched its much-trailed software update on Wednesday, initiating a rolling upgrade of the system for users who had signed up.

While the update appeared to go smoothly with the majority of social media users commenting their upgrade appeared successful.

Some users, who had already reserved the software with Microsoft, noticed that their systems had updated – but for the impatient few who can’t wait, there is a neat hack to help jump the queue.

Rather than waiting for Windows Update to prompt the user to download, as Microsoft News notes, you can instead open ‘Command Prompt’ as an Administrator. Enter ‘wuauclt.exe /updatenow’ and then (allowing a few minutes) open Windows Update.

Users should see the Windows 10 update prompt on the old desktop.
