Inspired by its pledge to “organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible”, Google has revolutionised web search, mapping and countless other everyday tasks.

But now the internet giant has gone a step further – giving couch potatoes the ability to order pizza with a flick of their wrist, or at least a swipe of their smart watch.

The firm yesterday revealed details about a range of forthcoming software at its I/O developer conference in San Francisco, showing off apps that will be available for Android Wear smartwatches, such as the LG G Watch, Samsung Gear Live and Moto 360.

The Lyft app, for example, allows the user verbally to ask the watch to call a taxi to their location and then lets them rate the service.

But the Twitter buzz was mainly about the pizza-ordering potential of the Eat24 app, as a Google exec gave a live demonstration.

Ashley Esqueda, a senior editor for CNET TV in the US, predicted in six months’ time she would be tweeting: “OK Google, find me a nutritionist and a personal trainer.”
