Apple Music can now be played through Sonos speakers, more than six months after the new streaming service was unveiled.

Apple launched its streaming music apps on 30 June. But it has until now lacked the ability to be played through the popular Sonos internet-enabled speakers.

Sonos already integrates most of Apple Music’s competitors, including Spotify. Unlike some other platforms — including Apple’s own AirPlay — all Sonos music is played from within its own app, so it isn’t possible to play music from new services unless Sonos integrates it.

Users can add Apple Music to that app by clicking the “Add Music services” button, choosing Apple Music, and logging in.

The two companies ran a beta period from early December, which allowed people to sign up and be able to use it early. Users were asked to submit feedback about whether it was working in return for early access.

““The feedback from Apple Music members on Sonos during the beta period has been great,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s head of internet services. “Sonos plus Apple Music provides an amazing listening experience at home – and we’re excited to offer it to all Sonos customers starting tomorrow.”

The new feature will be available from 11 February.
