Google has unveiled Google Cast, a new technology that puts music from the web or your phone onto any speakers.

The technology works just like Chromecast, Google’s small TV dongle that plugs into a TV and can play TV shows, films and videos from the internet.

Like Chromecast, Google Cast Ready allows you to press a button on your music player — whether it’s on Android, iOS or the internet — and send it to speakers or soundbars.

The Cast speakers pull music directly from the cloud, meaning that it won’t have to be downloaded to your phone and they can ensure they are playing the best quality music.

Cast will work with apps including Google Play Music, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Pandora and many more. A full list of compatible apps is available on Google’s site.

The first Google Cast ready speakers will go on sale in the US in Spring. Sony, LG and HEOS by Denon are all set to release speakers that can use the technology, with the support of a range of chip makers.
