The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus: Everything you need to know

Samsung launched its latest flagship smartphones this week – the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.

Already available for pre-order, the S9 is available for £739 and the larger model is up for grabs for £869.

Anyone purchasing one of the handsets before 11.59pm on 7 March will receive their order on 9 March, well before they start appearing in stores on 16 March.

It is possible get up to £200 off either phone by trading in an old handset.

On the company’s website, choose the “Trade In” option during the checkout process and enter the details of the device to trade– from Apple, Sony, Samsung, LG, Huawei, OnePlus or HTC.

If it is eligible, you could get your hands on the S9 for £539, and the S9+ for £669.

Major mobile networks and retailers are offering their own deals on the S9 and S9+. Here’s what is available:

Carphone Warehouse

Carphone Warehouse’s top recommended S9 plan gets you 12GB of monthly data and unlimited minutes and texts on O2, for £37 per month after a £249.99 upfront fee.

Its top recommended S9+ plan gets you 20GB of monthly data and unlimited minutes and texts on O2, for £49 per monthly after a £249.99 upfront fee.

There are a number of plans and networks to choose from and they are all organised and explained very clearly.

You can also wipe £100 off the price of your order by trading in an eligible handset.

EE

EE’s most popular S9 plan at the time of writing, gives 60GB of data per month, unlimited texts and minutes, and 24 months of BT Sport app access, for £68 per month after a £10 upfront fee.

Its most popular S9+ plan gives 60GB of monthly data, unlimited texts and minutes, and 24 months of BT Sport app access for £78 per month after a £10 upfront fee.

EE is offering its own trade-in discount, which expires on 26 March, although it only applies to S9 and S9+ plans that have a £250 upfront fee attached. You can wipe that out by trading in your S7 or S7 Edge.

O2

O2’s recommended S9 plan gets you 50GB of data per month, unlimited texts and minutes, and free screen replacement, for £68 per month, after a £49.99 upfront fee.

Its recommended S9+ plan gets you 50GB of data per month, unlimited texts and minutes, and free screen replacement, for £73 per month, after a £49.99 upfront fee.

O2 is also offering a trade-in discount, which expires on 15 March. It will get you up to £100 off the S9 or S9+ if you trade in a Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S6, S6 Edge or S6 Edge Plus.

Vodafone

Vodafone’s most popular S9 plan at the time of writing gets you 16GB of monthly data and unlimited minutes and texts for £59 per month after a £29 upfront fee.

Its most popular S9+ plan gets you 40GB of monthly data and unlimited minutes and texts for £69 per month after a £49 upfront fee.

Sky Mobile

Sky Mobile’s S9 Swap24 plan gets you 500MB of monthly data and unlimited calls and texts if you’re a Sky TV customer, for £33 per month.

Its Swap24 plan for the S9+ gets you 500MB of monthly data and unlimited calls and texts if you’re a Sky TV customer, for £38.

If you place your order before 15 March, Sky Mobile will give you 10GB of extra data.

Virgin Mobile

One of the S9 plans offered by Virgin Mobile gets you 40GB of monthly data and unlimited calls and texts for £52.50 per month.

It is offering the S9+ for £60 per month, which will get you 40GB of monthly data and unlimited calls and texts.

Virgin Mobile also has its own trade-in offer. You can get up to £400 cashback by trading in your old smartphone when you pre-order the S9 or S9+ before 15 March.

Tesco Mobile

Tesco Mobile’s flagship S9 plan allows for 20GB of monthly data, 5,000 minutes and 5,000 texts, for £47.99 per month.
