Tinder stops working as people see 'error 5000' instead of dates

Tinder has stopped working, leaving people unable to log in.

Users are simply seeing messages about its issues – largely "error 5000" or that "something went wrong" – instead of being able to swipe or look at potential matches.

Others said the app had appeared to be working but that messages are refusing to send.

The outage has lasted for some hours, according to Down Detector. It is affecting users in various locations, the same site showed.

But the site's official account is yet to respond to the outage. Tinder doesn't run an official status page, meaning it is impossible to check whether the company knows about the problems.

A support page on its site advises that if the app is having problems logging in then users should force quit it on their phone and try again to try and make it work. But there is no guarantee that will help fix this problem, which appears to be a problem with Tinder's servers, and testing it in The Independent's office showed it did not seem to work.

Numerous people complained that the problems arrived just as they were in the middle of speaking to someone promising, joking that they would now be unable to ever find out if they'd met their soulmate.

Others said that nothing had changed: they'd not been able to get dates before, either.
