Twitter down: Social network goes offline due to technical problems
Technical problems at Twitter still aren't a thing of the past
Hundreds of thousands of Twitter users are believed to be affected today as the social network went down due to technical problems.
Many of Twitter's 304 million users who tried to access the site were met with an illustration of a broken robot and the message: "Something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing — we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon."
In the early days of Twitter, outages used to be common. However, as Twitter has grown and become more popular, technical problems have become less common.
However, as today's outage shows, the social network can still succumb to problems.
Twitter's status page, which monitors and reports outages, has not yet posted an update. However, DownRightNow, a site which monitors internet problems, said users should expect "likely service disruption," and noted a spike in the number down reporters from users.
Those who somehow managed to get through the Great Twitter Blackout naturally decided to tweet about it.
The site came back online quickly for many users, however some remained affected.
