A mysterious new version of WhatsApp built specifically for iPad users could be about to launch.

The messaging app is available across a number of platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry, but you can’t use it on an iPad or iPod, because it’s a telephony app.

However, that may be about to change.

WABetaInfo, which also rumoured the move in September, has spotted brand new references about a “WhatsApp for iPad app” in a recent update.

How the app might work isn’t yet clear, but WABetaInfo claims it will be “great news for all WhatsApp users having an iPad device”.

WhatsApp for iPad could, for instance, simply be a WhatsApp wrapper that makes WhatsApp Web work a lot more like the actual app.

As well as transforming the look of the browser version of the app – which you can also access on desktop – it could ensure iPad users receive notifications in much the same way as they would on iPhones.

WhatsApp has rolled out a number of useful features over recent weeks, including Delete for Everyone.

It lets you recall sent messages, as long as you act within seven minutes.

However, you can delete even older messages – from several days ago – by changing the time on your phone’s clock.
