Weekly high-tech hot topics in the blogs: iPad security breach, WWDC, HTC EVO sales

Hot topics in the tech blogs for the week ending June 11 include announcements made at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, a high-profile iPad security breach, information about Motorola's forthcoming smartphone releases, Google's Caffeine search index update, and Sprint's error in reporting HTC EVO sales figures.

Apple Worldwide Developers Conference announcements
Apple CEO Steve Jobs managed to evoke cheers and excitement from a crowd of more than 5000 developers, journalists and bloggers at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference this week despite the fact that Apple's major product announcement, the iPhone 4, had previously been outed by technology blog Gizmodo. The additions of a front-facing camera, Apple's FaceTime video chat, 720p HD recording, an LED flash, a retina display, and iOS 4 were additional announcements that got bloggers' fingers rattling across the keyboard.

iPad security breach
iPad 3G users across the US were shocked to learn that their email addresses may have been exposed in "Apple's Worst Security Breach." Technology blog Gawker reported that around "114,000 iPad Owners"..."could be vulnerable to spam marketing and malicious hacking." Later in the week the Wall Street Journal reported that the "Federal Bureau of Investigation has opened an investigation into the security breach in AT&T Inc.'s website that exposed the email addresses of some iPad owners."

Motorola's forthcoming smartphones
Motorola revealed it is working on a 2GHz mobile device set to be released this year that will be twice as fast as Apple's iPhone 4. The company told technology blog Conceivably Tech that the new smartphone would "incorporate everything that is technologically possible in a smartphone today." A second Motorola device made the news on June 10 after images, specs and videos of a device dubbed the Droid 2 appeared on the web courtesy of Android-centric web blog Droid Life.

Google Caffeine search index
This week Google gave its search index a caffeine injection, with an update that provides searchers with results that are up to "50 percent fresher." The real-time infused indexing system, Caffeine, helps users find content that has recently appeared on the web.

HTC EVO sales records
American network provider Sprint created headlines when it announced "the total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined." Two days later the company confessed it had "erred in the comparison," sparking headlines of a completely different nature.
