Microsoft secretly revealed the Xbox Series S, hiding it in plain sight – but nobody noticed, it has revealed.

The console was shown off this week, after a series of leaks forced Microsoft to officially unveil it. It said that it will cost $299, that it is its smallest console ever and that it would arrive on 10 November.

The Series S will stand alongside the Series X, the flagship, more powerful and more expensive console.

But Xbox Series S had actually been shown to the publicly, quietly in a video on 1 July, the official Xbox account tweeted.

It joked that the console was "so small" that despite it being full view on a bookshelf during an interview, "nobody noticed".

The console had appeared during an interview between Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, and journalist Seth Schiesel.

In a follow-up tweet, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, revealed that he had the Xbox on show during other interviews with YouTubers Justine and Jenna Ezarik.

In recent days, Xbox has been sending out models of the Series S and Series X to YouTubers, in part to stress just how small the cheaper version is.

Ms Ezarek, for instance, posted a video in which she noted that the Series S is "so small", and that she was "shocked, because I actually thought that both of them would be a lot larger than they were".

The console is 18.8-inches tall, 5.9-inches deep and 2.5-inches wide when it is stood up vertically, though it can also be laid down on its side. Currently, the Xbox One S had been Microsoft's smallest console, but the Series S has a much smaller volume.
