Black Friday and Cyber Monday might have come and gone, but that doesn’t mean you’ve missed out on bagging some bargains.

That’s because, while it might not be as well-known as the other, more prominent, shopping counterparts, there is another sales day that delivers a host of impressive offers: Green Monday.

While Black Friday has been widely recognised as an annual shopping season for decades, the conception of Green Monday came far more recently and has since become the third biggest shopping day of the year.

Here’s everything you need to know:

What is Green Monday?

An online shopping phenomenon that lands on the second Monday of December each year, Green Monday is centred on the panic that sets in when people realise they’re running out of time to buy Christmas gifts.

For that reason, a number of retailers use it as an opportunity to extend the excitement surrounding the holiday shopping season with deals on everything from electronics to fashion and toys.

With the big day just a couple of weeks away, it’s also one of the last days that shoppers can ensure their online deliveries will arrive in time.

Green Monday is big news in the US where stores like Amazon, eBay, Walmart and Target all take part and many retailers in the UK offer huge discounts too.

When did it begin?

The term Green Monday was originally coined by eBay in 2007 as a way to describe the website’s best sales day in December.

However, when other retailers heard the name, they also decided to jump on the bandwagon and offer their own seasonal sales on the second Monday in December.

Some retailers choose to call this holiday Cyber Monday 2 instead of Green Monday.

When is Green Monday this year?

Green Monday falls on December 10 this year so the deals have already started to appear.

How can you find the best deals?

As with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, preparation is key. Items are likely to sell out quickly, so it’s a good idea to research items you want to buy in advance and head to the retailer’s websites as early as possible.

We also suggest sticking to a shopping list of items that you know you actually want, setting yourself a budget and watching out for additional discount codes online.

It’s also a good idea to check retailer’s delivery times before buying so you can ensure the items will arrive before Christmas.

Which stores are taking part?

Green Monday deals are all over the internet, and while a lot of the buzz is felt in the US, many UK-based online retailers will also participate.

For the most part, you're going to find Green Monday deals in many of the same places you're able to find Black Friday and Cyber Monday bargains.

Amazon – Although Amazon doesn’t have a dedicated Green Monday page, it is still participating this year with savings on everything from it’s own-brand smart home gadgets to Xbox consoles, cameras and televisions.

This year, Amazon kicked off its Last Minute Christmas Deals on the 6 December and will run right through until 21 December.

eBay – The inventor of Green Monday, eBay has a number of featured deals on its website across everything from tablets and televisions to appliances.

Limited deals include 20 per cent off furniture, up to 50 per cent on TVs, and great savings on Dyson Vacuum top sellers.

Debenhams – Right now, Debenhams is offering up to 15 per cent off beauty, skincare and fragrance as well as up to 50 per cent off women’s designer clothing and 3 for 2 offers on a range of gifts.

John Lewis – In the run up to Christmas John Lewis has some impressive savings across fashion, home and electricals including up to 50 per cent off womenswear and up to 20 per cent off selected toys.
