Charlize Theron says homeschooling her children in quarantine has been ‘incredibly stressful’

‘I will make any action movie over again before I homeschool again,’ actor says

Charlize Theron has spoken about the struggles of homeschooling her children while at home during the coronavirus pandemic, saying she would much rather make intense action films than become their teacher again.

Theron has two daughters – eight-year-old Jackson, who she adopted in 2012, and four-year-old August, who she adopted in July 2015.

The Oscar-winning actor acknowledged the difficulties of homeschooling her daughters during a recent interview with Today’s Willie Geist, who also has two children.

Speaking to the television anchor about life in quarantine over video chat, Theron said: “I’d say the biggest challenge for me was just homeschooling,” to which Geist responded: “Amen.”

“It was an incredibly stressful time for me and I will make any action movie over and over and over again before I homeschool again,” the Bombshell star stated.

In April, a national helpline was launched in the UK to provide support for parents who are struggling to homeschool their children in lockdown.

The StarLine helpline is run by teachers and education specialists and offers parents or guardians advice and resources they can use to better educate their children.

In May, Theron shared a rare photograph of her daughter Jackson on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road, which was taken in 2012 during filming.

In the caption, the 44-year-old explained that she had just become a mother before production commenced.

“At least my child will forever have the fun fact of ‘I spent most of the first year of my life in a war rig’ (special appearance by my incredible costumer Inge Hough),” she wrote.

In April last year, Theron revealed that her first child Jackson, who she “thought was a boy”, identified as a girl.

“Yes, I thought she was a boy, too. Until she looked at me when she was three years old and said, ‘I am not a boy!’” the actor said.

“So there you go! I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see thrive.”

In December, Theron said that Jackson felt “hurt” over being referred to with the “wrong pronouns”.

“I think it became harder for us the older she got that people were still writing about her in the wrong pronouns, and also I was still talking about her in the press using the wrong pronoun. It really hurt her feelings,” the actor told Pride Source.
