US Supreme Court split on health reforms

The US Supreme Court appeared divided along ideological lines over whether Congress had the power to require people to buy medical insurance, with conservative justices asking sceptical questions about the healthcare law and liberals defending it.

Two conservatives on the nine-member panel hinted they would back the new provision, known as the Individual Mandate, but only if they believed they were not giving Congress new power over people's lives.
