Miley Cyrus confirms marriage to Liam Hemsworth

Liam Hemsworth has spoken out for the first time since it was announced that he and Miley Cyrus had split up after eight months of marriage.

On Tuesday, the Australian actor posted a photograph of a beach at sunset alongside a straightforward statement in which he described the breakup as a “private matter”.

“Hi all,” Hemsworth’s caption begins. “Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward.

“This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”

Hemsworth’s post has already garnered more than 1.1m likes and thousands of comments from friends and followers offering their support.

“Splitting up is never easy, I’m so very sorry for what you’re going through,” wrote one fan. “Sending you so much love and hugs during your time of grieving and healing.”

Another added: “I wish you and Miley nothing but happiness. You deserve that Liam.”

The Isn’t it Romantic? star’s post comes one day after Cyrus alluded to the split on her own Instagram in a post referencing “change” and “evolution”.

“Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win,” the singer wrote underneath a series of photographs of herself posing amidst the Dolomites mountains in Italy.

“Like the mountain I am standing on top of, which was once under water, connected with Africa, change is inevitable,” she continued.

The couple’s split was revealed on Saturday after a representative for Cyrus confirmed the news to PEOPLE.

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” the representative said.

“Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.

“They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
