One in five Brits admit to having had an affair

A new survey reveals that 43 per cent of people have also turned down the opportunity

One in five British adults admits they have had an affair, according to a new poll.

20 per cent of male respondents and 19 per cent of female respondents admitted to having had an affair in a new poll of 1660 respondents by YouGov.

Slightly more of the population admitted to having considered an affair, and 43 per cent said they had had the opportunity but had turned it down.

92 per cent of people classed intercourse with a person other than your partner as cheating, while 50 per cent of women classed forming an emotional (rather than physical) relationship with someone else as cheating, as opposed to only 37 per cent of men.

The survey also showed that only half of those who had an affair went on to repeat the act, as 50 per cent who admitted to affairs had only had one.

Friends and work colleagues were the most likely for people to have affairs with, as 43 per cent and 38 per cent respondents who had affairs, said they had them with these groups.
