Kia has launched the latest version of the Optima. The fourth iteration of its family saloon, this is bigger than before and promises more interior space – as well as the benefits of a lighter and stiffer chassis.

There’ll be three trim levels in the range, named 2, 3 and 4, with air-con, sat-nav, electric seat adjust and a rear-view camera standard across the board.

The company intends to follow up with an Optima Estate during the course of 2016

Once you hit the range topper, the list includes premium gear like adaptive cruise and a surround camera.

All models get the same 1.7-litre turbo-diesel that featured in the previous model, albeit warmed up to develop 139bhp and 251lb ft and put out 110g/km of CO2. All these have moved in the direction you want them to.

Prices, on the other hand, haven’t gone vaulting ahead of themselves and start at £21,295.

Kia won’t be stopping there, though. The company intends to follow up with an Optima Estate during the course of 2016 – and there may also be a high-performance GT model to light up the range.
