Robbie Williams condemns Greta Thunberg critics: 'Let her be'

Robbie Williams has condemned critics of Greta Thunberg, urging people to “let her be” regardless of what they think of her environmental activism.

Speaking to British GQ, the musician said there should be legislation against passing judgement on a 16-year-old girl “no matter what they do”.

“No matter what you think of Greta or her speech, her tone or her facial expressions, her anger, her passion, she should be allowed to do that without reproach,” Williams told the magazine.

“And comments from unempathetic c***s are not going to help the young girl’s psyche, whichever way you lean on the climate.”

The 45-year-old singer went on to call criticism from people like Piers Morgan and LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault “annoying” and said that he empathises with her despite not necessarily agreeing with her views on climate change.

“I’m not necessarily in her corner from her standpoint, but I think that she should be allowed to get on with whatever the f*** she wants to get on with,” Williams said. “Let her be.”

Williams’ comments come after Piers Morgan claimed he was “worried” about Thunberg and thinks the teen environmentalist is being “used”.

“Oh, I don’t hate Greta at all,” the Good Morning Britain presenter tweeted in response to someone who accused him of hating Thunberg.

“I find her passion admirable, albeit her rhetoric can be very hectoring and annoying,” he continued.

“But I think she’s being used, and I worry about her more than her supporters seem to.”
