Harry and Meghan step back from royal family: what next?

If you love architecture, interior design and the royal family, this could be the job for you.

The Queen is currently recruiting an expert to help oversee a 10-year refurbishment plan for Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Household is advertising for the position, listed as “Planner”, on LinkedIn and the person who gets the job will be tasked with the brief of ensuring the palace is “fit for purpose” for the next 50 years.

As well as modernising the building’s electrical cabling, plumbing and heating for the first time since the 1950s, a big part of the role will also be revamping the decor of palace.

With early planning and preparation for the extensive refurbishment already complete, the Planner will be joining an existing team in the Programme Management Office in “a role that is truly collaborative”.

The position is listed as mid to senior level with a £38,000 salary based on a 37.5 hour working week from Monday to Friday. Travelling is also listed as a required aspect of the job.

Among the benefits of the role is a 15 per cent employer contribution pension scheme, access to a range of catering and recreational facilities and the opportunity for training and development.

“No two days will be the same and the variety and pace will challenge you,” the listing states.

“But as you support others, you'll have exceptional opportunities to grow your own career in a great team environment. And knowing you're contributing to the future of an iconic building will inspire you to deliver every day.”

The job, which was posted on Monday, has already received more than 100 applications.

Other current vacancies at the palace include a Personal Secretary to Princess Alexandra, a Sous Chef and Restorer of Upholstery.

Last year, the Queen advertised for a “Head of Digital Engagement” as she sought to hire a social media expert to run her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The role boasted a salary of £45,000 to £50,000 a year, depending on experience, and included benefits such as a free lunch every day and 33 vacation days a year.
