Want to earn money just for paying your bills? NatWest is launching a £3-a-month rewards current account on 12 October that will pay 3 per cent on household bills.

Unlike similar accounts, there are no minimum criteria and no limit to the amount of eligible bills that can be included. NatWest reckons customers will be able to earn £90 a year on average, net of the £3 fee, by using the account – which is also being offered by Royal bank of Scotland.

Andrew Hagger of Moneycomms.co.uk said: "The deal is good for people who have, say, £200 or £300 worth of qualifying direct debits as they'll earn a net £3 or £6 per month for doing nothing."

However, the cost of agreed overdrafts on the account is expensive at £6 a month plus interest charged at 19.89 per cent. So anyone who dips into the red for a couple of days may be better off looking elsewhere as the charges will soon wipe out the rewards.

Win a home-security system

Aviva is giving away 500 home- security systems to those who take out household insurance with the company before 30 November. The Canary systems, which are worth around £150, will be sent to the winners of a draw.

Peel off the cost of wallpaper

For National Wallpaper Week (5 to 11 October), Graham & Brown is offering 20 per cent off all its wallpaper until 31 October. To get the discount, use the promo code WWIND at grahambrown.com.

Discounts on broadband

TalkTalk has a deal for unlimited fibre broadband at just £7.50 a month, for 18 months until 5 November. However, you will also have to pay £17.70 a month for line rental. The company claims it could mean saving £148 per month compared to rival packages.

Polo shirt prices slashed

SportsDirect.com is offering up to 80 per cent off Slazenger polo shirts between 4 and 10 October. Men's plain shirts will fall from £16.99 to £3.49 while junior-sized shirts are down from £11.99 to £2.99.
