Retired US general compares air strikes to casual sex (really)

In the week Barack Obama finally unveiled his long-awaited strategy to combat Isis, American pundits have been falling over themselves to analyse exactly what it means.

But amid the clamour, something seems to have been lost, and that something is reason.

Somewhat confusingly, the man in the above CNN screengrab is not Michael Hayden.

This is Michael Hayden, a retired US air force four-star general and a former director of both the CIA and the National Security Agency.

Maybe if we look at his comments in full they'll make more sense.

"The reliance on air power has all of the attraction of casual sex: It seems to offer gratification but with very little commitment. We need to be wary of a strategy that puts emphasis on air power and air power alone."

Hm... perhaps not.
