Defence contractors will be alarmed at moves afoot to delay the order of a £20bn replacement for Trident. A decision on whether to replace the UK’s nuclear submarine fleet is due in 2016. A cross-party group of MPs has argued that keeping Trident is not justified solely on the grounds of maintaining Britain’s military status.

Mail on Sunday: Under-fire Cable may ditch Land Registry sale

Vince Cable, the under-pressure Business Secretary, is believed to be rethinking a future sale of the Land Registry after criticism of the handling of the Post Office float, which was thought to have been massively undervalued. Mr Cable, 71, may delay any sale until after the next election.

Sunday Telegraph: Addison Lee could be sold for £800m

The private equity firm Carlyle is believed to be poised to sell off the London cab firm Addison Lee for as much as £800m. In 14 months of Carlyle’s ownership the value of the company has more than doubled and annual profits last year stood at £21m, up from £7m the year before.

Sunday Times: Platinum mines in South Africa for sale

Anglo-American has put some of its South African platinum mines up for sale to rationalise the business. The mines have been identified as among underperforming assets set to be cleared out. In total the group hopes to raise $4bn (£2.3bn) from the disposals. The South African investment bank RMB is likely to oversee the sales.
