Independent on Sunday: G4S accused over Guantanamo Bay deal

The security firm G4S has been reported to the Government by the human rights group Reprieve for accepting a multi-million-pound contract to provide “janitorial services” to the US’s Guantanamo Bay naval base which holds terrorism suspects. Reprieve said that G4S “may contribute to ongoing human rights violations”.

Sunday Times: GSK shareholders losing patience with Gent

The drugs giant GlaxoSmithKline is under pressure to shake up its board as investors call for a rapid exit for its chairman, Sir Chris Gent. Sir Chris has said he will step down next year but impatience is growing with an underperforming share price and a succession of corruption allegations in countries including China.

Sunday Telegraph: Liberty sounds out ITV investors amid bid talk

Virgin Media’s owner, Liberty Global, has been canvassing support from shareholders in the broadcaster ITV as a prelude to a possible takeover. Liberty bought BSkyB’s 6.4 per cent stake in ITV for £481m in July, fuelling talk of a bid. Liberty is said to be forming alliances with big US investors in the firm including Blackrock.

Mail on Sunday: Demand for vinyl and CDs aids HMV comeback

HMV is on the brink of regaining its title from online rival Amazon as the UK’s biggest seller of CDs and DVDs little more than a year after it was bought out of administration by the turnaround specialist Hilco. A renewed interest in CDs and vinyl has helped same-store sales rise 13.8 per cent in the past two months.
