1. Asian markets are mixed. Japan's Nikkei is up 0.73 per cent, while the Hang Seng is down 1.14 per cent. Chinese markets are closed today and tomorrow for a public holiday.

2. The European Central Bank will announce its latest interest rate decision at 12.45pm, today, followed by a press conference and policy statement at 1.30pm.

3. The August services PMI numbers for the UK, France, Spain, Italy and Germany, will also be released today. They will be watched closely for signs of growth in the continent's major economies.
