A Barclays banker who wrote a punishing list of commandments for interns titled 'Welcome to the Jungle' is leaving his job as planned after being offered a new role at an asset management firm.

Justin Kwan, a second year analyst in the bank’s Global Power and Utilities Group, rose to notoriety last week after his email to an incoming round of interns was leaked by the Wall Street Journal.

Kwan described his group as 'unique' and the 'frattiest' and instructed interns that socks were not acceptable attire, while jackets had to be worn at all times.

"We expect you to be the last ones to leave every night… no matter what," the email read.

Kwan also instructed the new recruits to keep a log of whenever they left their desk and for how long.

"Welcome to the big leagues, boys and girls. Play time is over and it’s time to buckle up. Once you hit the desk, your lives will be your work for nine weeks," he said.

Kwan was due to resign from Barclays this summer to take up a job at The Carlyle Group, an asset management firm. His offer from Carlyle Group has not been affected by these events.

This scandal follows the death of a young employee at Goldman Sachs. Sarvshreshth Gupta, 22, is believed to have killed himself after working through the night and struggling to match the demands he felt under.

Barclays and Carlyle Group declined to comment.
