BBC takes full control of Lonely Planet
BBC Worldwide has taken full control of Lonely Planet, buying the remaining 25 per cent from its founders, Tony and Maureen Wheeler, for £42.1m.
The BBC exercised a put option agreed at the time of its acquisition of the controlling stake in the travel guide company in 2007. The deal sparked anger from commercial rivals, accusing the BBC of going beyond its remit.
