Call to cut VAT on ice cream
Ice-cream makers and sellers have called for a cut in VAT to boost sales.
The Ice Cream Alliance has warned that producers and retailers may fold because of the rising costs of ingredients and the wet summers of recent years.
It has called on the Treasury to help by classifying ice cream as a food product rather than a luxury, thereby removing VAT on sales.
