£155m Euromillions jackpot could be one of the biggest wins ever recorded

A lucky winner could scoop the £155m EuroMillions jackpot on Friday, in what would be the second biggest lottery prize ever won in the UK.

The giant pot rolled over after no ticketholders won the top prize in Tuesday’s draw.

A Scottish man claimed a £655,838.70 Euromillions prize on Thursday. Jim Forbes, from Tayport, Fife, only realised he had the winning numbers after checking his ticket at the supermarket.

The £155m prize on offer on Friday is only surpassed by the £161.65 m won in July 2011 by Colin and Chris Weir, from North Ayrshire, which remains the British record for a lottery win.

Five UK EuroMillions winners have collected more than £100m in the competition’s history, including Adrian and Gillian Bayford who bagged £148m in 2012.

In all, 91 UK ticket holders have won the EuroMillions jackpot or a share of the jackpot prize, placing the country second behind France in terms of jackpot wins.

Andy Carter, senior winners' adviser at the National Lottery, said: "Friday's EuroMillions jackpot will be one of the biggest ever offered to National Lottery players in the UK".

"The draw will also help to raise more millions for National Lottery Good Causes, with on average £30m added every week to the £37bn raised so far", he added.

The most frequent balls are numbers 10, 20 and 27, all drawn 17 times each since September 2016, according to EuroMillions. The bonus 'lucky star' number drawn the most is no.9, drawn 28 times since September last year.

Nine European countries participle in the EuroMillions draw - the UK, France, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland.

The draw is expected to take place at around 8pm GMT.
