HBOS ex-chief executive eyes US financial services job
Andy Hornby, the former chief executive of failed bank HBOS, is believed to be eyeing up job opportunities in the United States.
A source close to HBOS said that "a major North American credit card company" is considering Mr Hornby for a senior executive role. Mr Hornby studied at Harvard on the US east coast, after graduating from Oxford.
He took over HBOS in 2006, and is now a £60,000-a-month adviser to the newly merged Lloyds Banking Group.
"There's a big financial services company in North America that is interested in him," added the source. "Credit cards is a quasi- retail business, which is much more him."
Mr Hornby was the head of HBOS's retail division before he became chief operating officer in 2005.
The 42-year-old was also one of the four high-profile bankers grilled by the Commons Treasury Select Committee last month.
The bankers apologised for their roles in the current financial crisis, though Mr Hornby stressed that he had not received huge bonuses. Rather, he had reinvested any bonuses in HBOS shares, thereby demonstrating his commitment to the bank.
