Santander UK appoints Nathan Bostock as new boss
Bostock was poached by Santander in what was seen as a massive blow to RBS where he served as finance director
Santander UK has appointed former Royal Bank of Scotland finance director Nathan Bostock as chief executive to replace Ana Botin.
The move was expected after Botin took over as chair of the Spanish parent bank on the death of her father Emilio. She gave up her executive role today but will remain as a non-executive director of the UK bank.
Bostock, who was seen as former RBS boss Stephen Hester’s lieutenant, was poached by Santander at the end of last year in what was seen as a massive blow to the taxpayer-owned bank. He worked at Abbey National, the former building society that became Santander UK, from 2001 to 2009.
Santander UK chairman Lord Burns said: “Nathan’s appointment provides Santander UK with continuity of vision and strategy. He brings a strong understanding not just of Santander UK but also of the wider UK banking industry, regulatory environment and economic climate.”
