Serco beefs up board in wake of tagging scandal

Scandal-hit Serco continues to strengthen its board with the appointment of three heavyweight non-executives days after it poached Rupert Soames from Aggreko as its new chief executive.

Soames round the boardroom table will be former BAA chief executive and HMRC chairman Mike Clasper, WPP vice president Tamara Ingram and former deputy governor of the Bank of England Rachel Lomax.

Serco is struggling to repair its reputation after two profit warnings in the past four months and the fallout from its overcharging the Department of Justice for electronic tagging of prisoners.

Chairman Alastair Lyons said: “I am delighted that we have secured the services of three individuals who bring a broad range of skills and experience to complement Serco’s current non-executive directors.”

Lomax will chair Serco’s new corporate responsibility committee, set up in the wake of the tagging affair to have ethical and governance oversight of the company.
