Tesco store closures: 43 locations revealed
More than half of the closures affect Express convenience shops
Tesco has named the 43 stores set to close across the UK as part of the retailer's cost-cutting measures.
Most of the closures will be Express convenience shops and up to 2,000 jobs are expected to be affected. Staff at the named stores are being informed about the changes at present.
New chief executive Dave Lewis revealed the plans earlier this month as part of his shake-up of the supermarket chain and the plans are to be fully implemented by April.
Tesco will also abandon its headquarters in Cheshunt in 2016 after more than 40 years, and 49 stores in the pipeline are being cancelled.
"The decision to close the stores has been exceptionally difficult to take. I recognise it will affect many hard working colleagues, our customers and local communities.
"Our priority is to explain what this announcement means for our colleagues and wherever possible, offer them alternative roles with Tesco. We will continue to serve our customers through other local stores and our dotcom service."
