The highest paid jobs of 2016 have been revealed
The average salary in the UK, based on an average across all occupations, is £33,482
Top managers, aircraft pilots and in-house lawyers are among the highest earners in the UK in 2016.
That’s according to the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings released by the Office of National Statistics.
The data from the ONS is based on a random sample of 1 per cent of all the workers who carry out each occupation, using 2015 to 2016 pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) tax records.
Information about particular roles, such as salaries for TV presenters, have been suppressed by the ONS to avoid identifying individual pay packets.
Chief executives and senior officials earn the most with an average salary of £85,285 per year.
This is an increase of 4 per cent from 2015, according to the data.
Aircraft and pilot engineers ranked second with salaries of about £1,634 per week or £84,968 per year.
In comparison, the average salary in the UK for a full time employee is £33,482.
Brokers, transport associate professionals (train drivers) and lawyers all feature in the top 10.
At the bottom of the list, bar staff earn as little as £281 per week or an average of £14,966 per year.
Theme parks attendants and hairdressers ranked second and third respectively.
A theme park worker can expect to earn an average of £15,366, while a hairdresser or barber can expect to earn £15,605 per year.
