Uber is testing a coloured-coded lighting system to help passengers find their vehicle.

The new colour coding, called Spot, will help Uber customers to identify their car.

“Spot is the latest experiment in our ongoing effort to make Uber pickups as seamless as possible. When riders and drivers can easily find each other, we’re able to trim down wait times, which is a win for everyone. We hope you’ll have a chance to experience Spot in the coming weeks,” Uber said in a blog post.

First, users will be asked to choose a colour in the app while waiting for their car. The driver’s windshield will then glow in the same colour when it comes to pick them up, allowing the riders to find their car in the traffic.

Additionally, riders will also have the option to light up their phone screen to help the driver identify them quickly.

Spot is being tested in Seattle. It is not known if or when the scheme will be rolled out in other cities.
