A consumer rights official has vowed to question the organisers of a "masters" football match in Brazil after a lookalike turned up in place of former Argentine forward Claudio Caniggia.

Daniel Cordone, who played briefly for Newcastle United, appeared at the match between former Argentina and Brazil players to imitate the man who played 50 times for his country but hadn't turned up.

The organisers had promised that a host of former stars from the two South American nations would be taking part, including Caniggia, Roberto Sensini and Ariel Ortega for Argentina and Mauro Galvao, Edmilson and Junior Baiano for Brazil.

However, the 10,000-strong crowd realised the ruse when big screens at the Arena das Dunas in Natal showed Cordone in a long blond wig, according to Reuters. The match ended in a 3-3 draw.
