Regulars will know that i holds reader parties for no real reason other than we relish meeting you. We like introducing to each other the two groups that have made i such a success: you, the readers, and the staff here at The Independent/i who, uniquely, in what passes for Fleet Street, produce two newspapers, daily.

Tonight, we are "in the thick of it" at the glamorous Skyloft venue atop Westminster's Millbank Tower. It will be our largest event to date – in honour of i's second birthday on Friday. It comes in a week where we have enjoyed record sales for both weekday and Saturday product alike. Your support is humbling.

We relish such occasions to put faces to names encountered daily in i's inbox (i@independent.co.uk), mailbag, Facebook.com/theipaper and Twitter (@theipaper) accounts. There is competition for attention tonight: the Skyfall Bond premiere just up the road and the televised Champions League games, but I hope those of you who said you will come do, whatever the weather. We were massively over-subscribed, so let us know if you can't attend.

Judging by sales, you are hugely interested in the Savile scandal currently dominating the news, but I hope the BBC will stop eating itself soon, so we can refocus on the despicable DJ, and not the corporation. It has handled the scandal terribly, but I still believe the Beeb is a major force for good, a gracenote of British life. The new D-G may not survive, but all concerned must act, and be seen to act, to restore our faith – and soon. That's what I think. You can tell me what you think either in person tonight, or via the usual....
