The Independent on Sunday has been shortlisted in the Weekend Newspaper of the Year (National) category at the 2012 Newspaper Awards next month. This follows a run in which the paper has increased its year-on-year newstrade sales in seven out of the past eight months while the rest of the quality market is suffering double-digit decline.

The New Review, after a redesign which allowed us to introduce new columnists, new features and new pages devoted to fashion, food and drink, photography and interiors, is shortlisted in the National Colour Supplement of the Year category.

Only last month, the Society of News Design in New York awarded The New Review a prestigious silver award, with one judge saying: "It's quite simply the best newsprint magazine I have ever seen."

The SND also gave the IoS two awards for excellence – there were 10,236 entries, and, among the British press, only the Financial Times also emerged as a winner.

And our fingers are crossed for Tuesday night and the British Press Awards, where Robert Chalmers is shortlisted as interviewer of the year and Matthew Bell as diarist of the year. We wish them luck!
