Chris Evans, the radio DJ, has said his breakfast rival Chris Moyles should leave his Radio 1 show, claiming he had "lost perspective".

Evans, who formerly hosted the show himself and now fronts the Radio 2 morning show, said: "It's time for him to leave."

His comments follow an extraordinary on-air rant last month in which Moyles complained he had not been paid. Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt later said he had spoken to Moyles but he had not been reprimanded.

Speaking to Radio 5 Live last night, Evans claimed his rival had become too old for the show and said: "Chris has got to go somewhere else." He added that Moyles had gone a bit mad and had "lost perspective".

"Why do you think you have the right to hijack a BBC microphone to make that complaint? I don't think entertainment was in his mind," he said.

It has been suggested that Moyles had begun to sound out commercial rivals, possibly Capital, about a move when his BBC contract ends next year.
