Seann Walsh defends himself on 'It Takes Two' following ex-girlfriend's open letter
He said he is not the person he is being portrayed as
Strictly Come Dancing contestant Seann Walsh has defended himself following his public breakup with ex-girlfriend Rebecca Humphries, saying “I’m not perfect.”
The comedian, who became embroiled in controversy after photographs showed him and his dance partner Katya Jones kissing, responded to an open letter his ex penned, in which she ended their five-year relationship and referred to him as “controlling.”
Speaking on the sister show of Strictly Come Dancing, It Takes Two, Walsh said: “First of all, I would rather not be having to address this publicly but I feel like I have to. I made a mistake which I’m very sorry for. I’m sorry for the hurt that I’ve caused. You never think about the extent of the damage that you’re going to do in a mistake that you’ve made.
He continued, telling host Zoe Ball that he’s not perfect, “far from it,” and that his relationship with Humphries wasn’t perfect either - but that he’s very sorry for the way it ended.
The 32-year-old then took a moment to defend his character, which has been questioned following his ex’s open letter, in which she said he "aggressively, and repeatedly, called me a psycho/nuts/mental" throughout their relationship whenever she questioned his "inappropriate, hurtful behaviour.”
The comedian responded: “I feel it’s also important for me to say that the people that know me the most, that love me, they know that I am not the person I am being portrayed as,” he said. “I’m still sorry for what I did but it’s very important for me to get that out there.”
Both Walsh and Jones, who is married, issued public apologies after the photos of them kissing were released - an incident which they both referred to as a “mistake.”
Despite the apologies, Humphries decided to address the situation on Twitter and in the open letter, where she described the repeated false assurances that Walsh made insisting nothing was going on between him and Jones.
Walsh’s behaviour has been described on social media as “gaslighting,” however, Humphries insists the incident has not made her a “victim” but rather a “strong, capable person who is now free.”
