Two men hanged after spying charges

Iran’s state radio says authorities have executed two men convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad and the CIA. The report said Mohammad Heidari, who was accused of working for Mossad, and Kourosh Ahmadi, who allegedly gave the CIA intelligence on Iran, were hanged.

Man dies after being shot on Saturday

A 31-year-old man has died after a gunman opened fire on him and two others in Hove, East Sussex. The man from Kent was fatally wounded at 11.30pm on Saturday. Police have said the “horrific” attack was not gang related. The killer is at large, but is not considered to be a risk.

Mairead Philpott to appeal her sentence

Mairead Philpott, jailed along with husband Mick after being found guilty of the manslaughter of their six children, is to appeal against the length of her sentence. Defence barrister Shaun Smith QC confirmed that her 17-year jail term would be challenged at the Court of Appeal.

Tanks and planes bombard Qusair

Too few doctors for out-of-hours service

Harmoni, a private company which took over running GP out-of-hours services in north London, has been severely criticised by the National Health Service (NHS) regulator for its failings. Man killed as plane crash-lands

A light aircraft crash at Caernarfon Aiport in Gwynedd, Wales, has left one man dead and two others critically ill. The aircraft is thought to have crashed and flipped while landing. Police said the three on board were a family from Lancashire. A man in his 60s and a boy were taken to hospital in Bangor.

A capsule carrying mice and lizards has returned to Earth after a month in space. The experiment was meant to test the effects of weightlessness on cell structure. Not all of the animals survived the flight, which landed 50 miles from Kazakhstan.
