Despite announcing she would be making her first public appearance at the ESPYs next month, where she will be awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, Caitlyn Jenner surprised Pride attendees this weekend by attending a pride party in New York.

Caitlyn was at the PD-D Rooftop Lounge at the Dream Downtown Hotel, filming scenes for her forthcoming E! docuseries I Am Cait.

She was greeted with cheers and applause from the attendees upon arriving, many of whom who did not know she would be making an appearance.

Jenner watched Candis Cayne, transgender actress and performer, who dedicated an emotional performance of ‘I’m Every Woman’ to her.

This weekend Jenner was also praised by President Obama in a recorded message for the Trailblazer Honors awards show, where he used Jenner as an example of the nation moving forward.

“Today, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is history. We passed the hate crime law that bears Matthew Shepard and James Berg Jr.’s names,” he said. “And all you have to do is look at this month’s cover of Vanity Fair to see how America is more accepting of people for who they truly are.”
