Social media users went into overdrive, calling Ted Cruz the worst opponent of transgender rights

Ms Jenner insisted Obama and Hillary Clinton were against same-sex marriage

Transgender icon Caitlyn Jenner has revealed she would support Ted Cruz in the election because Republicans would ensure “every trans person” would have a job.

In an interview with transgender woman and former ABC producer Dawn Ennis in Advocate, the reality television star said she met Texan Senator Ted Cruz one year ago and he “was very nice”.

“I like Ted Cruz. I think he’s very conservative and a great constitutionalist and a very articulate man. I haven’t endorsed him or anything like that. But I also think, he’s an evangelical Christian, and probably one of the worst ones when it comes to trans issues.”

When questioned further on why she would support a Republican over a Democrat, Ms Jenner said: ”Number 1, if we don’t have a country, we don’t have trans issues. We need jobs. We need a vibrant economy. I want every trans person to have a job. With $19 trillion in debt and it keeps going up, we’re spending money we don’t have. Eventually, it’s going to end. And I don’t want to see that. Socialism did not build this country. Capitalism did. Free enterprise. The people built it. And they need to be given the opportunity to build it back up.”

An advert for the second season of “I Am Cait”, a documentary about Ms Jenner's transgender journey which begins 6 March, shows Ms Jenner arguing about politics on her tour bus.

“Obama was against gay marriage,” she said. “Hillary Clinton was against gay marriage.“

Ms Ennis, who was fired from ABC after changing gender three times, wrote in her piece that Ms Jenner said she would be Mr Cruz’s ambassador.

“Yes, trans ambassador to the president of the United States, so we can say, ‘Ted, love what you’re doing but here’s what’s going on.’”

Ms Jenner did not mention any Democrats in the interview, however she did denounce Donald Trump’s delayed reaction to being endorsed by KKK leader David Duke.

“That’s just political B.S.,” she said.

Think Progress writer Zack Ford wrote: "Jenner isn’t wrong that transgender people would benefit if they could secure jobs. But the economy isn’t what’s keeping transgender people from finding employment — it’s anti-transgender discrimination."

Users on Twitter reacted with anger and disappointment to Ms Jenner’s comments, who is often seen as a leader and voice for the transgender community.
