Daniel Radcliffe stopped from entering US after 'visa problems'

The actor was reportedly in the process of updating his visa

Daniel Radcliffe might have benefited from a magic wand after a visa "glitch" prevented him from entering the United States from Canada.

The Harry Potter actor was left stranded in Toronto because his visa was missing a stamp from the US embassy, the New York Post reported.

Radcliffe, who has carved out an impressive stage career since the days of wands and wizardry with roles in Equus and The Cripple of Inishmaan, was on his way to Comic-Con in San Diego to promote his new film Horns when he was turned away by immigration officers on Thursday.

According to the newspaper, the actor is in the process of upgrading his current P-2 visa – designated for foreign actors and entertainers – to an O-1 visa for “the individual who possesses extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business or athletics”.

The O-1 visa allows its holder to stay in the US for up to three years, while the P-2 is only valid while the individual is working on a project and cannot exceed a year.

Radcliffe’s application was approved but he reportedly required a “stamp from the US embassy” in Toronto in order to complete the journey back to America – but “their computer system was down”.

The actor celebrated his 25th birthday in Toronto on Wednesday, where he also attended the premiere of his film What If.

It was unclear whether Radcliffe would make it to Comic-Con for a planned panel today with the cast and director of Horns.

Radcliffe stars as the protagonist in an adaptation of Joe Hill’s horror novel of the same name, playing Ignatius Perrish, a man who awakes one morning after a heavy night on the tiles to find he has a pair of horns protruding out of his temples.

It played at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival, when Daniel described the story as having “real horror and slasher horror elements but then has this incredible emotional love story in the middle of it,” he told Indie Wire.
