Long before his days in two of the world’s most famous bands, Dave Grohl was sat at home writing fan mail, just like everyone else.

But unlike other teens, the Foo Fighters frontman wasn’t wasting his time penning adoring letters to his idols.

Instead, an unabashed 14-year-old Grohl was more interested in finding out if punk legend Ian Mackaye could give him a leg up into the music industry, judging by a letter the Fugazi singer apparently unearthed this week.

The note begins with a reference to “good thrash” and continues: “So, I was wondering if you could give me some numbers of people to get in touch with. It would help. Thanks.”

The letter was posted on the Foo Fighters social media accounts. As you can see, Grohl even helpfully provided his phone number and the time during which he could call him.
